Jonathan at Cadet Field Training
Below are two photos of Jonathan @ Cadet Field Training. While most college kids get the summer off, Jonathan and his classmates have been training hard. He will be coming home on Sunday and have a week off. We are all looking forward to seeing him.

Congratulations Nima Tashi
Belated congratulations to my good friend Nima Tashi Sherpa who reached the summit of Mt. Everest on May 18. It was his 10th visit to this sacred place.
He is now back home in Pangboche. We will see him when we arrive in Kathmandu on June 13 and look forward to celebrating with him.

Scary morning
I received an email this morning from Everest base camp saying that a Sherpa had died in an accident on the Lhotse face. I was very concerned since I knew that Nima Tashi had been in camp 2 and was headed camp 3 (which is located on the Lhotse face).
After about twenty minutes of panicked emails, I learned that it was a Sherpa from another expedition. Reports have varied somewhat from an avalanche, falling ice, and an unsecured fall. Apparently, he was buried in a crevasse near the accident.
My deepest sympathies go out to the family and friends of this Sherpa.
