Summit Certificate

This week I received mail from Jiban Ghimire at Sherpa Shangri-La Treks & Expeditions.  It was my official Ama Dablam summit certificate from the Nepal Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation.  I had seen many of these up on the wall in Nima Tashi’s home in Pangboche (except his are from Everest).

Thanks to Jiban for following up with the officials in Nepal and forwarding the certificate onto me.  It means a lot to me.

Elizabeth Hawley

I was very pleased this morning when I was contacted by Elizabeth Hawley. She is the authority on records of Himalayan climbing and was looking for more information about my climb of Ama Dablam.

I met Ms. Hawley in Kathmandu (where she lives) last year after our expedition. She was friendly but all business, capturing every detail of our trip. I meant to contact her this year in Kathmandu but it slipped my mind once I got there. My visits to the kids, my friends, and everything else took up just about every avaiable minute I was there.

This year her questions were the same - requesting very specific details. I'll post some of her questions and my responses later. I am honored to have my summit of Ama Dablam recorded in her database.

Expedition Photos

I've uploaded all of the photos and videos to the gallery page. You can access it here.

I apologize for some duplicates / similar photos. My quick pass at editing missed some of those. Also, I have not completed labeling or commenting on the photos (no time yet). I will try to work on it this weekend.

The movies are in a separate sub-album. As noted they are quite large so only broadband users will want to try and access these. If you do not have broadband access and would like to view them, shoot me an email with your mailing address and I'll burn a CD for you.

I hope you enjoy them!

Summit video

Last night I started assembling the photos and videos for the web. I hope to finish those tonight and publish them.

I have put up a video I filmed on the summit of Ama Dablam. Warning: This is a huge Quicktime video file (27.5MB). Unless you have a broadband connection (cable modem, DSL, T1, etc.) do not try to download it.

If you are running Windows or Mac OS you will need Quicktime to view them. If you are running Linux, I recommend Mplayer. My advice is to try to view it first and do the download only if you receieve an error.

This video will give you some sense of what it was like on the summit. It was quite cold and windy, probably -15F with the wind chill. You can see Mt. Everest and Lhotse, Namgel (looking over towards Everest), and Nima Tashi digging something out of his pack.

Here is the link to the video.
