While most college kids get the summer off, Jonathan and his classmates have been training hard. He will be coming home on Sunday and have a week off. We are all looking forward to seeing him.

Everest on May 18. It was his 10th visit to this sacred place.

He is now back home in Pangboche. We will see him when we arrive in Kathmandu on June 13 and look forward to celebrating with him.

I was very concerned since I knew that Nima Tashi had been in camp 2 and was headed camp 3 (which is located on the Lhotse face).

After about twenty minutes of panicked emails, I learned that it was a Sherpa from another expedition. Reports have varied somewhat from an avalanche, falling ice, and an unsecured fall. Apparently, he was buried in a crevasse near the accident.

My deepest sympathies go out to the family and friends of this Sherpa.

I suspect they flew in a helicopter up to Syangboche and then walked down to Namche. Nima went straight up to Pangboche so he could make more preparations for the team.

It sounds like everyone is doing well.

By the way, Nima Tashi will be flying home on the same flight as ours (following our trek in June). He will be visiting us for several months here in the U.S.

Nicholas has been accepted to a number of great universities and has selected NYU. Joseph Jr. is having a good year at school and seems ready to enter middle school next year (hard to believe).

In June, Nicholas will graduate from high school and then leave for a month to France. Erin and Jonathan will come home for break and to their summer jobs. Erin gets a longer break than Jonathan since he has to return to West Point for his "Yearling" summer training at Camp Buckner.

After Nicholas graduates Linda, Joseph Jr, and I will be heading to Nepal. We'll be trekking for a about a month starting in Kathmandu and going all the way up to Nima Tashi's home in Pangboche (a little over 13,000 Feet) and beyond. I'll be creating a new blog for the trip this weekend and will start detailing our plans and preparations.

We're excited for everything ahead. The graduation, seeing the kids come home from college, and our trek to Nepal. I'm sure the time will be here before we know it.

Nima Tashi called the other day from Kathmandu. He will be leading another expedition to Everest this Spring. He's been on over a dozen Everest expedition and, of course, has 9 summits. I'll be in contact with the team at base camp via email. We'll all be thinking of him and hoping for a safe expedition.

More news this weekend!
